Official start of the ‘Tow Bar Wanted’ project!
A mobile invasion at Dom Square. The VIP Bus is canning ‘fresh aspirations’, Dutch dishes and hot wine are being served from another caravan, while ‘my’ caravan is being prepared for departure. Firepots at the square ensure warmth in the dim winter sunlight at this 3rd day of the new decade. An enthusiastic crowd waves us goodbye as Utrecht Mayor Aleid Wolfsen and I leave Dom Square at 15:40.
In one of the city’s service cars we talk about the soul of Utrecht. A real city with all facilities, yet with a small village character. A city with a large young population. A city with a history that goes back beyond the Roman era. This afternoon I will leave this city for a mobile adventure through the heart of Europe. What will this journey bring and show me?
In Bunnik I say goodbye to Mayor Wolfsen and switch tow bar to the one owned by Rob Zee from Oud Beijerland. I met dentist Rob during a radio interview at ‘Hoekschewaard Live’, where he spontaneously offered me a lift. We continue our journey towards Arnhem where I found a spot for the first night through Twitter. I am happy to know that I have a safe place, as the night falls and the temperature drops. We drive through a white landscape. How will I find (safe) places to spend the night in a caravan without a car? Anyway, that’s tomorrow’s problem. I would like to thank everybody present at my departure for their support! That’s the spirit! There we go!
